What is NPS?
The central government launched the NPS (National Pension System) in 2004. It is presided over by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority of India (PFRDA). At first, it was only available to employees of the central government, giving them a platform to invest and build up savings for their retirement. Later, in 2009, the PFRDA became available to all Indian citizens by broadening its scope. Additionally, Sections 80C and 80CCD allow tax deductions for investments made in the NPS.
